Ruud van Nistelrooy

1st July 2009

For those who are not familiar with Ruud van Nistelrooy, this is a little about my childhood hero. Rutgerus Johannes Martinus van Nistelrooij. He celebrated his 33th birthday today!

Ruud van Nistelrooy was born in Oss, Holland on the 1st of July 1976. Nistelrooy who is 6 feet 2 inches, 188cm to be exact, has been my hero since the time he joined Manchester United.

You always had a sense that this one person is the person you admire from the first glance. I had the feeling that Nistelrooy was going to make a huge impact in football with Manchester United. The first time I watched him play was against, believe it or not, MALAYSIA!!

hahahaha.

One sad thing though, I never really got to meet him personally.

Nistelrooy made his mark in Manchester United, where he scored 150 official goals for Manchester United before leaving to Real Madrid.

Things I could remember about my favourite footballer was

  • That he scored his 100th goal against Everton where the team won 4-3 and Nistelrooy eventually scoring his 101th goal.
  • He scored in, a record, 8 consecutive matches.
  • He was the club's all-time European scoring record with 38 goals.

After his departure to Real Madrid, I never really followed him so faithfully as I used to. But his news on the sports section was always my attention. There was one time, when he single handedly destroyed Osasuna 4-1. He scored all 4 goals.

He also played for the Netherlands internationally. With Holland, he had a great goal scoring record, he was nicknamed the Goal scoring machine by many.

But his most commonly used nicknamed was Van the Man.

Nistelrooy was married 9 days after his 28th birthday in 2004. He tied the knot with Leontien Slaats and is the father to his daughter, Moa Annette and son, Liam.

One thing I would like to get clear with people,

Its not unnessasary to think that a footballer is my idol only just because of the way he plays football or just because of football.

That is not right. It is also because of his donations and contribution that he is involved with outside of football. For your information, "FIFA for SOS Children's Villages" Ambassador in The Netherlands, is Ruud van Nistelrooy himself.

Despite having a career with football in Spain and having more attention for football, he doesn't mind making an exception for the SOS children.

FYI, FIFA for SOS Children's Villages is the World's Largest Orphan Charity.

Here is a 2 videos of Nistelrooy.

This is the one during his warm up. I remember getting very excited on the phone with Kar Fei when I saw him doing this warm up.

Star Dribbling..

This other one is Ruud's top 3 goals he scored for United.

Best 3 Goals from United.

Happy Birthday Ruudtje!
You still rock! :)
